What is Hunger Week?
Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is a nationwide event where people across the United States work together in their own communities to draw attention to a common issue: homelessness and food insecurity.

Nationally, between 10-15% of households experience housing insecurity while the most recent estimate of food insecurity showed 10.1% of households experiencing inadequate access to food. College students are not immune to these basic need insecurities and often face them at startling rates. Read "A Decade of College Student Hunger: What We Know and Where We Need to Go" to learn more about this issue. Ultimately, raising awareness and coming together to support those in need is a vital goal we can all be a part of.
Groups can bring awareness to the needs of their communities in a variety of ways: educational programs, service opportunities, fundraising, and other advocacy events.
Meredith College is participating by hosting a week of student-created and student-led events that emphasize community and campus resources, raise funds for students in need of support, and bring awareness to a reality that many in our community face.
